SUNSHINE & CLAY
- I started this project in early 2019 in Vancouver, Canada.
The purpose of this project is to create representation and connection from the point of view of a female of colour; & build community with conversation through visual art. By photographing Black women I’ve met in social spaces, a friend of a friend, or a stranger turned muse; all these women make up part of our community in Vancouver, a racially fractured community.
The women I’ve chosen to photograph have all inspired me with their beauty & energy in some way. Beauty that is individual to each identity. The meaning of Sunshine & Clay is an interpretation of how I see us as equals. Sunshine, touches everyone’s skin no matter what colour, & clay is a metaphor for our identity; it can be molded into infinite shapes. Sunshine & Clay are simple ways we relate.
My photo project is a celebration of us, by us. An ode to women of colour. Not just a celebration or an ode, but a look into the dynamic complexities of our complexions, our bodies, our history, & of our pain & love.
#Black Lives Matter
Now more than ever it is important to do what we can to help fight the end of police brutality & inequality because of racism. My hopes are that through my art I can help.
I will be releasing a limited number of 3 prints from my unreleased upcoming project Sunshine & Clay (Date TBA). Right now 50% of the earnings will be given to the NAACP & the BLM Movement.
